National Tree Day has been a week long exploration of plants and growing at JK Padstow. The Native Sensory Garden has been a work in progress for most of this year, with the first plants planted on Schools Tree Day on Friday 26th July. Each class planted an Aussie Sunset shrub with the children working hard to dig the holes, carefully plant the shrubs and then water and mulch them.
Sunday 28th July was National Tree Day and Centre Manager Helen and her family helped plant trees at Band Hall Reserve in Birrong. While there Helen collected some more native plants for the Native Sensory Garden which the children have been planting since.
Gardening with children builds a strong appreciation for nature and introduces children to how interconnected our world is.
