The children from Jenny's Kindergarten Gregory Hills enjoyed a hands on Composting experience with Dianne from
Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living.Dianne explained in detail the processes with composting and demonstrated the benefits that composting does for our environment.
The children learnt about the four components of composting such as Nitrogen (green ingredients), Carbon (brown ingredients), Oxygen and water.
Dianne provided the children with their own compost bi which they were able to start and demonstrated the layers in order for effective composting and how we can use the compost for our soil to assist our centre vege garden.
The children were actively involved and asked lots of questions such as "How does it make a plant grow?", " What helps our garden to grow?"
Dianne explained that manure is an active ingredient for growth and the children also mentioned they have gardens at home and they help their parents in the garden.
Dianne will be back in the coming weeks to check on our compost bin and assist us with our worm farm.
